the seventh ep on frits wentinks bobby donny label brings together some known and unknown producers. the original production is by low end activist, someone who has spent the last 15 years in berlin, bristol and brighton, no doubt picking up parts of the musical styles of those cities as he goes. it features london grime mc trim, an original member of roll deep and an artist signed to james blake s 1-800 label. the remixes comes from frits himself as well as cassius select, who has recently released on uttu and herbert s accidental. park end is a naughty tune with garage tinged drums slipping and sliding beneath menacing rhymes from trim. paranoid synth sounds and an oscillating low end speak of late night urban mischief and its the sort of characterful tune to stand out in any set. cassius select reconfigures the tune as a much more dark and experimental number with a heavy bottom end and huge sub bass that totally envelops you. frits then goes for a more mellow and melodic version, with lazy drums and wilting chords as rainy keys fall from above. it glows like street lights at night and closes out an ep with real attitude

play – according to the cultural historian johan huizinga – is a free activity carried out within certain fixed boundaries in time and space according to voluntary, but necessarily binding rules. it has no goal outside itself and is accompanied by a feeling of excitement and joy. it creates social alliances that for their part often surround themselves in a secret or set themselves off from the everyday world by means of disguise.
in the ocean is closed the “modern composition super group” (the wire) zeitkratzer and the performance collective she she pop observe each other across the limits of their own categories. they look in fascination at their “exotic“ colleagues. outside eyes and ears are interested in different things, ask the right wrong questions, misunderstand the agreements and breach basic laws.
she she pop and zeitkratzer play a concert: secret, order and ocean. they celebrate music and play per se.

steve stoll - nyc acid legend made a hard banging acid tracer.
in 1996 serotonin label heads selway and szostek went to moscow to perform at the invitation of &#1055,&#1058,&#1070,&#1063, magazine. synapse performed at the -waterclub- and met the legendary dj compass vrubell. they went to his -studio- where he had perfected the art of making entire tracks out patterns on the yamaha dx-5. szostek brought a dat of these jams back to nyc and schmer-003 dj rx-5 -a taste for crap- was released as a small run white label in 97. the run sold out and disappeared to be forgotten forever... until 2016 szostek casually mentions its existence to techno uber-nerd nina kraviz who just had to have it for her -fabric 91- cd. so dj rx-5 was back from the ash heap of history and schmer got a new release from him on schmer07. then schmer got the word out far and wide that they d like a remix ep for two of the originals: compass provided stems because like a miracle he still had the patterns after 20 years. heeding the call were pointsman, tripmastaz, steve stoll and schmer s own bpmf. so this is what you get: -a taste for remix-. it will leave your lips wanting more, for sure!

if you are wondering what the artist wanted to tell you by choosing this title, we will give you a small hint: it’s a cynical statement on something that for sure every party promoter has experienced at some point. the rest, we will leave up to your imagination… in real life, there’s no mercy – neither is when it comes to the sound of this new snork release by syntax error. the four new tracks with meaningful names are not only a social criticism and another artistic processing of the current development of the techno scene, but also a classic syntax error: rough, tricky and good to groove. each track stands on its own, telling another story. “collateral cosmopolitan” is a straight forward piece with a highly memorable beat talking about the uniformity that is creeping in the waiting lines of more and more techno clubs. “i wear my grandpa’s glasses” presents a totally dodgy sound, which might be a little oldschool and even a little irritating – just like some fashion items you encounter on today’s big city streets. “no fog is no solution” is a tight song that definitely needs some good fog and a harsh strobe. and finally, the last track sounds like a futuristic fairy tale from outer space looking on the world as if it is a “society bathysphere”.

fouk might have been curating outplay since 2013, but their butterfunk ep is in fact the duos first proper ep on their own imprint. its not that theyve been resting on their laurels: they ve drip-fed a handful of eps on the likes of heist and house of disco over the past few years, and released solo efforts on kolour ltd and razor n tape that stormed the charts. it s been fascinating to see the dutch pair slowly break the mould, moving from heavy sampling in favour to an emphasis on original instrumentation and production. the butterfunk ep is fine showcase of their prowess in the studio, loaded to the hilt with contemporary dancefloor funk. things kick off with the rolling drums, off-beat percussion and seriously infectious hammond lines of organ freeman. title track butterfunk is aimed squarely at the hips with its smooth keys and perfectly placed vocal, while some acid lines give the track a little edge. flip over for the bumping wong way, a chunky workout with a rubber bassline. the finale of the ep is winter, a fantastic slice of 80s inspired downtempo mushroom jazz.

ben jacobs aka crackazat first made a name for himself when he was still living in bristol and released on ep on the city s futureboogie label, which has also signed music from the likes of julio bashmore, crazy p and outboxx. early in his career crackazat was also the official warm up act for an at the time up and coming artist called floating points, who now needs no introduction as one of the world s leading electronic music producers. moving to sweden shortly after the futureboogie release, crackazat made contact with the local talk owners mad mats and tooli, and after a couple of single/ep releases signed his debut solo album crescendo. the last couple of years crackazat has had an explosion of global popularity, which has led to playing gigs all over the world, and releasing tracks and remixes on labels ranging from josh wink s ovum, joey negro s z records and eureka in japan. classically trained with a strong jazz influence, crackazat has a distinctively individual sound that fuses funk with soulful vocals and the electronic bass music associated with his former home of bristol. eloquent and intelligent, rainbow fantasia is a masterpiece that showcases one of electronic music s most exciting talents.

‘utopia’ is the ninth studio album from the iconic artist björk, out november 24th via one little indian records. the album s artwork was created in collaboration of m/m, jesse kanda and james merry and reflects the records sonic direction, optimism, lightness, utopia. of the album she explained to dazed this summer that, ““maybe that’s why it became a utopian theme – if we’re gonna survive not only my personal drama but also the sort of situation the world is in today, we’ve got to come up with a new plan, if we don’t have the dream, we’re just not gonna change. especially now, this kind of dream is an emergency.” björk wrote, produced and recorded the album between reykjavik and new york, working closely with arca and writing for, conducting and recruiting a thirteen piece flute orchestra which will be on the road with her next year.

nice price deal !!! following our quest for inventive approaches within the sometimes tired and highly commodified house / tech house / techno / minimal or whatever you call it scene, we ve gone this time for landesvatter. regardless of having already signed a few full lenght lps on the highly esteemed normoton as well as on under_line and others, joachim landesvatter prefers to keep a low-key atittude. he offers us two great tracks, each one followed by a very special remix. the original of nome is a highly bouncy digitech house track for the dancefloor, with an infectious sinewave to keep you hooked from beggining to end. the remix of nome, in charge of arp aubert (marco niemerski aka tensnake & stephan lorenz) who run the great mirau musik, comes on the form of a hysterical dub house track that literally puts >the roof in the air<. we recommended for full effect to keep the volume on the red. as usual, the second half of the release follows at a quieter pace. hausse is a track on a out to lunch tradition, greatly influenced by detroit but at the same time distancing itself from the current plethora of nostalgics. in-house duo taron-trekka closes the package with a deep remix, rich on freaky jazz touches. we lack words to describe it.

kanja records is sincerely honored to present its sixth vinyl release, based on a concept called sunday mornings. with this series of releases we will focus on that warm up, early morning, after party gems and slowly fading away from peak time music. our philosophy behind this concept is that the focus goes to the tracks being timeless, and music that you can listen to in every time of day and night. music that offers a vast variety, but in the end coming together in that sweet and warm morning glory. bidon by university of nowhere was definitely our first pick for the first track on this release. nice warm pads and steady broken beats are becoming a trademark for their production. astral control by maurice giovannini perfectly sits beside our opening track with its laid back mood and again nice moody pads. insen gathway by widovski, an opening track on our b side, with nice minimalistic grooves, warm pads and freaky background ticks, surely deserves a spot on this release. defenders of prisma by gabriele carasco and enzo pietropaolo is the final track on this vinyl release. a really special track, which has a very mysterious and sentimental vibe and nicely rounds up our sixth release.
